PATIALA: The father- son
duo Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal
and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal
would have to pay heavy price for their
misadventures in Panchayati Raj elections, gross
misuse of government machinery and wide spread
lawlessness in the state. This was stated by
Partap Singh Bajwa President Punjab Pradesh
Congress Committee (PPCC) while addressing
election meeting organised by Congress MLA Brahm
Mohindra in historic village Alowal, the birth
place of Sant Ishar Singh ji Rara Sahib wale in
Samana assembly.
He blamed the Chief
Minister for total breakdown of law and order in
Punjab and said that misadventures carried out
by Mr.Sukhbir Singh Badal in the name of
'Election Engineering ' would cost heavily to
Badals. He said that the lust of grabbing power
by hook or crook has overpowered the mind of
Badal clan. Bajwa said that cold blooded murder
of Youth Congress leader and Congress candidate
Sukhraj Singh Bhagupur, attack on Congress MLA
RanaGurmeet Singh Sodhi in Ferozepur were not
isolated incidents.
The score of other
incidents of violence by Akalis are reported
from all over the state. "It is a calculated
conspiracy to spread panic and Punjab Police was
hobnobbing with the ruling party", he
stated. PPCC President said that common people
were feeling insecure due to spate of murders,
robberies, kidnappings and assault on women. He
stated that the criminals are roaming around so
brazenly that people are scared of stepping out
of their homes even in day light.
He said that over two dozen
dacoits robbed and injured two families in
Mothanwala and Kamalpur Bhatha villages near
SultanpurLodhi in Kapurthala district was a
gruesome and organized crime and the daily
newspapers are flooded with such incidents.
Mr.Bajwa demanded immediate arrest of dacoits
and payment of Rs.one lakh compensation to each
of injured persons.
Bajwa appealed to villagers
not to allow SAD-BJP government to grab the
right of self government granted to them by 73rd
amendment in the Indian Constitution. He said
that Akalis were trying to grab the Panchayats,
block Samitis and ZilaParishad by unfair means.
He said that people were so fed up with misrule
of the SAD-BJP government that they were waiting
for an opportunity to teach lesson to the ruling
alliance He said that Congress party was facing
the challenge with bold face and would lead the
people from front. He appealed to Congress
workers to expose the misdeeds of SAD-BJP
government in public.
Bajwa said that he had met
the Governor of Punjab yesterday to bring to his
notice the large scale rigging of Panchayati Raj
elections and demanded to deploy para-military
forces to ensure free and fair poll. He said
that going by the past experience of assembly
elections, the Akali Dal goons would try to
capture polling booths. He asked the State
Election Commission to make adequate security
arrangements to let the people exercise their
right of voting with free will.
Brahm Mohindra assured
Bajwa that Congress workers of Samana and
Patiala would counter any attempt by SAD-BJP
workers to encroach upon people's right of
franchise.
